Street Activator - Summer Student
The North End Business Association is seeking a summer student to help us in developing the profile of the North End and planning for future growth and use of our streets. This position involves hands-on work with streetscaping and beautification projects and support for planning North End events & activities. We are seeking a candidate who is outgoing, community-minded, engaged, and able to work independently. This job involves physical work, being outdoors and the ideal candidate should be able to lift items up to 50lbs.
Responsibilities:
Assist in developing a community profile
Assist in developing a wayfinding and placemaking strategy to include signage, art, seating, and enhanced active living for the North End.
Mapping available vehicle and bike parking as well as mapping the accessibility of our streets and businesses.
Work on various beautification projects around the North End Business Improvement District, including painting, planters, and maintenance of current infrastructure.
Assist with the coordination of events and activities
Work with local organizations on initiatives that celebrate the culture and diversity of the neighbourhood.
Requirements:
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to do physical work and lift objects up to 50lbs.
An eye for detail
Ability to problem-solve.
Reliable and can manage time well.
Assets:
Connection to the North End community.
Driver’s License and/or access to a vehicle.
Good at both primary and secondary data collection (which will include statistics, property values, neighbourhood assets, etc)
Knowledge of excel (including graphing) mapping software.
Current student or recent graduate of a Community Development or Planning Program.
Position Type: Summer Student/Paid Co-op
35 hours per week for 13 weeks
Salary: $17.00 per hour
