60 (exactly) North End businesses responded to NEBA’s the “Next 5 Years” survey, and shared their thoughts on the things that matter to them about the future of the business district. About 15 people came out to Attica to review the results of the survey and help provide some more context to the findings. The survey revealed a number of insights into what what the membership values, is concerned about, and hopes for the future. In terms as assets, the membership identified:
- Diversity (businesses, cultures, socio-economic)
- Community Feel/Residents
- Independent/Non-Corporate Businesses
- Proximity to Downtown/Bridges
- Low-rise Streetscapes
- Heritage Buildings
- New Growth
Moving forward, folks said they want to see an expanded mix of retail (independent), restaurants, offices and residences; a place to live, work and play; a vibrant and exciting destination; a place where businesses, residents (long-time and new) and not-for-profits collaborate; and a safe, walkable neighbourhood.
Things to improve upon included affordability, transit, branding and placemaking, more (controlled) development, and improved signage.
NEBA plans to use the outcomes of the survey and engagement session to inform it’s strategic plan for the next 5 years. In the process there will be more opportunities for the membership to engage in discussion about the future of the area and NEBA’s role. We thank everyone who participated. As your association, we want to know what you think. Please continue to share your thoughts with us.
